Guardian Dogs
Like many farms, we depend heavily on our livestock guardian dogs to keep our livestock safe and protect their pasture based way of life. Our dogs grow up as family with our sheep and goats.
Livestock Guardian Dogs For Sale
Gwendolyn had a litter on November 20, 2023. Sassy had hers on December 10, 2023. Puppies from both litters are available now.
At 3 months they have had their second shots. All have lived with sheep and some have started living with goats. They have seen, heard, and smelled poultry since birth. Our free range chickens go through some fields more than others.
The puppies are all trained to electric netting, which we have found increases respect for fences. They have been introduced to leash training. Some are doing well on leash and others are just beginning.
We rotate puppies through several paddocks of livestock to give them each the opportunity to meet the stock that lives there. Each has had a turn to be alone with livestock and to have the company of other puppies and/or the support of our adult guardians.
Each puppy we raise is carefully managed as an individual to set it up as a successful livestock guardian. Until they relocate they are learning to be guardians for our farm.
Besides the cost of raising puppies it requires an enormous amount of time to make sure that each has appropriate exposure to sheep, goats, poultry, and cattle to set them up for bonding with their future charges. Because of this, prices will go up as they gain more experience. We do not hold puppies. If those we are not keeping sell they will be gone. (We may make exceptions for people also purchasing livestock.)
Puppies by definition are not finished dogs and will need continuing support through puppyhood and adolescence and should not be considered "trained" before the age of 2.
We are willing to sell puppies as pets but ask that you be honest with us about your intentions so that we can discuss the future needs of the dog and challenges of bringing these magnificent working dogs into the home.

Clifford, our big white dog, is devoted to his goats. He is mostly Akbash.
Sasquatch, affectionately known as Sassy, is the daughter of Gwen and Merlin. She enjoys the companionship of her sheep and is tolerant of chickens foraging in her fields.
Great Pyrenees Merlin is ever watchful. His care is allows our chickens their free range lifestyle. He frequently spends his nights in paddocks with turkeys so they can sleep safely on their perches.
